There is a new trend viral on social media, age filter. Users are going crazy about this app. Now there are privacy concerns and even a call that FaceApp needs to be investigated by the FBI.
The app that allows through an age filter to show users how they will look after 40 years. There are millions of people, including people in India, who are transforming their current photo using age filter to see how they will look like when they are old. And these people are also sharing these photos on social media.
But after using app users are finding security issues with the app. The primary issue seems to be a clause in the terms and conditions of FaceApp. This clause says users give FaceApp “a perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully-paid, transferable sub-licensable license” to use photos they upload. There are also concerns that FaceApp not only uploads the photo on which you are applying age filter into its servers but also all other photos from your phone. However, this is just a rumor because security researchers have not found any evidence of it.
FaceApp has clarified that it is not a privacy risk. In a statement, it has said, “FaceApp performs most of the photo processing in the cloud. We only upload a photo selected by a user for editing. We never transfer any other images from the phone to the cloud. Most images are deleted from our servers within 48 hours from the upload date. We also accept requests from users for removing all their data from our servers.”
Similar fears were raised when the trend of #10yearchallenge went viral on Facebook in January this year. In this people uploaded their photos from 10 years earlier to show how they changed.
This is not the first time when FaceApp is in news for the wrong reasons. Two years ago the company created an ethnicity filter that allowed people to change their photos to look like a person from some other country or race. FaceApp apologized and removed the filter after controversy.

Hey! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no backup. Do you have any solutions to prevent hackers?
